- Quadra-Drive® II 4WD

The Quadra-Drive® II 4WD system offers the ultimate in off-road capability, combining a full-time transfer case with Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (ELSDs).
The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to the individual axles with traction. ELSDs also use electronically controlled clutch packs to automatically and instantly vary from slip to lock at each axle. This maximizes traction when needed without any of the on-road drawbacks normally associated with such a robust 4WD system.
- Quadra-Trac II® 4WD

The Quadra-Trac II® 4WD system provides the benefits of a two-speed active transfer case and Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) that transfers torque to individual wheels as needed to maintain traction under changing road conditions.
The system also uses Throttle Anticipate—sensing quick movement in throttle from a stop—and maximizes traction before tire slippage occurs. Quadra-Trac II features an electronic shift mechanism for ease of use.
- Quadra-Trac I® 4WD

The Quadra-Trac I® full-time 4WD system is ideal for customers who want the assurance of full-time four-wheel drive without switches or levers to pull. The system's single-speed transfer case meets rigorous Jeep® brand durability standards while offering smooth and quiet operation over a variety of road conditions.
- Two-Wheel Drive (2WD)

Available 4WD capability has been the Jeep® vehicle trademark for over six decades, but the 2009 Commander is available in a two-wheel drive (2WD) configuration.
