As capable as it is comfortable, as powerful as it is beautiful; Jeep® Commander combines the right amount of might with classic good looks. Choose from three available engines and let the torque tour begin.
A smooth-shifting multi-speed automatic transmission provides smooth optimum efficiency when mated to the 4.7L FFV V8 or 5.7L HEMI® V8 engines. The transmission allows fully automated shifting and manual gear selection through Electronic Range Select, which helps drivers better adapt to various on- and off-road conditions. This transmission is smart as well, thanks to its advanced adaptive shifting, which allows the transmission to learn a driving style and adapt the shift characteristics accordingly. It also features park position locks and tow / haul mode.
A five-speed automatic transmission is mated to the 3.7 V6 engine. In addition to providing smooth shifts and optimum efficiency, the transmission allows fully automated shifting when in the "drive" position, or the driver can also manually select each gear by moving the shifter left and right from the "drive" position. This capability gives the driver the ability to precisely match any on-road or off-road requirement.

- Variable Valve Timing

The 5.7L HEMI® V8 features new state-of-the-art Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on the exhaust valves to substantially improve fuel economy and refinement, and maximize performance. By closing the intake valve later, the engine is able utilize formerly wasted energy to push the crank instead of rejecting it as heat. The new VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine's pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. Essentially, VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.
- Electronic Throttle Control

Commander’s Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system helps prevent the “pedal bobble” that often occurs when in 4WD-low (4LO) mode.
ETC’s special off-road calibrations help the driver to “feather in” the throttle over uneven terrain, logs and rocks. The difference is night and day and is akin to walking vs. bouncing along tough off-road trails.
- Fuel Saver Mode Display

When the 5.7L HEMI® V8s Multi-Displacement System (MDS) has deactivated 4 cylinders, a “Fuel Saver” readout will be displayed in Commander’s Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC).
